The Pickle ditch follows the original course of the River Wandle. The Pickle leaves the river Wandle in the Phipps Bridge are and then flows for 913 meters until it re-joins the main river at Merton Bridge on Merton High Street. Leaving the Wandle the Pickle hardly ever exceeds more than a trickle even during periods of heavy rain.
