
Also known as The Wrythe, its name is thought to derive from the Anglo-Saxon word meaning streamlet – it is part of Carshalton, sited on a small branch of the River Wandle. Another possibility is that the name comes from the rye that used to be grown in the area.
It has had a village green since 1630 and is a Conservation Area
