A Grade II listed building next to Carshalton Ponds, Honeywood Museum re-opened in 2012 after extensive renovation thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and funding from the council and Sutton Arts Council.

The house dates from the17th century and it’s possible that the original building housed a cold water bath – a commercial venture at the time, since such bathing was thought to cure many ills.

The house was extended in Victorian and Edwardian times and has been beautifully restored to recreate the experience of living there in those eras. It’s a wonderful example of hands-on history. See, too, a lovely collection of Edwardian toys.

Ever-changing interactive exhibitions tell the story of the house and its residents, and there is a fascinating programme of events which further illustrate the history of Carshalton.

There’s also a shop and a tea-room.
