TREASURE DESCRIPTION: One of William Morris’ printed cotton designs from 1884 entitled ‘Wandle’ directly after the river that inspired it. Having a William Morris print named after the River Wandle itself is really special as it shows how much he both respected and was inspired by the River that helped build his business, acknowledging its importance and beauty. Designed by William Morris (1834-1896), an English textile designer, artist, writer and socialist associated with the English Arts & Crafts movement.
These treasures were made as part of The Building Exploratory, Wandle Treasures project. This project was part of the wider Living Wandle Landscape Partnership Scheme, funded by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund.
