The Grove Park

The Grove Park is part of the Carshalton Conservation Area and has two distinct areas – an ornamental park near the ponds and a recreation ground to the east. In medieval times the area was part of the grounds of Stone Court manor house. Remaining outbuildings were converted to what are now education department offices. The mansion, Grove House, currently used for council offices, was built in the early 19th century.

The Leoni Bridge is so named because it’s thought that Venetian architect Giacomo Leoni designed it in the 17th century. It is to be found where the park meets the Lower Pond and it’s made of white Portland stone.

A restored water wheel – Upper Mill – may have been there since Saxon times, and was renovated in 2004 after a fire.

The recreation area, created from fields in the 1920s, now houses a children’s playground, crazy golf, a bowling green for Carshalton Bowling Club, a ball park, café and toilets.
