Ravensbury Mill

The River Wandle at Ravensbury Park in Morden has had water mills in existence since the mid-17th century, becoming part of an important industrial area.

Ravensbury Park, for example, had a calico print works, set up by Huguenot, Peter Mauvillian, and employing nearly 300 people.

Ravensbury Mill was used for snuff production right up until 1926. It was also one of the last working mills on the Wandle, generating electricity until the 1960s.

The present buildings date from the late 18th – early 19th centuries. It is planned that they should house The Wandle Industrial Museum, with the working water wheels providing fine examples of Wandle’s industrial heritage on site.

Ravensbury Park is managed as a Local Nature Reserve.
