This project was delivered throughout 2015 and 2016 by The Wandle Trust and aimed to educate local communities on how to protect the River Wandle from pollution and encourage people to take practical steps to reduce, remove and report sources of litter and pollution.
A “River Guardians” volunteer team was set up and worked hard to complete 19 river clean-up sessions to remove as much pollution as they could from the Wandle.
A leaflet has been produced that outlines how we can all help to reduce the amount of pollution reaching the river and is available to download by clicking the button below.
Actions we can all take include: using eco-friendly alternatives for household cleaning, never tipping chemicals into street drains, ringing the Environment Agency if we spot signs of pollution in the river and getting involved in clean ups!
Although this project has now ended, The Wandle Trust hold regular, monthly river clean-up events and coordinate a pollution monitoring scheme that you can involved with. For more information please contact Polly Bryant at firstname.lastname@example.org or 0845 092 0110.
This project is part of the wider Living Wandle Landscape Partnership Scheme, supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund.
