Pickleball is said to be the fastest growing sport in North America with over 2 million players and is growing in popularity in the UK. A fun game for children and younger people to play but is also extremely popular with older men and women who used to play other sports like tennis, squash and badminton but have stopped for various reasons.

The Mayor of Croydon was at Wandle Park on 13th May to launch the opening of the Pickleball courts and have a go at this unique sport:

“The introduction of Pickleball to Wandle Park came about through a unique partnership: South London Area Pickleball, a local club who are here to help the sport grow in popularity and have started to paint pickleball lines onto the tennis courts of South London.

The Wandle Valley Regional Park Trust and their Get Active Wandle Valley project, encouraging more Croydon and Wandle Valley residents to be active in parks and open spaces.

Croydon Council are delighted to be able to introduce residents to the opportunity of trying out a new sport and therefore getting active.”

Many other people were there on the day to give the sport a go and try their hand at the new sport. See the gallery here:
