The centre is associated with the London Borough of Sutton’s Biodiversity Team, acting as an educational resource where people of all ages can learn about the local environment, its conservation and sustainability.

It comprises a 2.2 hectare nature reserve in which stands the Old Rectory, a listed building, a gatehouse and other outbuildings.

On site, there are educational visits as well as festivals, events and volunteer days organised by the Friends of Sutton Ecology Centre. This group promotes community ownership and strives for the continued success of the centre as a place of excellence for environmental education.

There is a trail in the grounds which explores the nature, heritage and sensory aspects of the environment.
